Description: It must have been around the year 1000 when Alemannic nomadic tribes from the north settled several regions of Upper Valais. They settled at relatively high elevations, cleared the forests in the "Wildinen" (wild forests), and established fertile mountain meadows. There, they lived from grain cultivation and their livestock as frugal, self-sufficient people. Thanks to their experience with agriculture and alpine farming at high altitudes, they early on embraced farming across several different levels of terrain throughout the year.
